Photographer Brett Hemmings post about our recent trip to Lake Conjola…
Shooting with Sam Thomson at Lake Conjola
I recently had the chance to head down to Lake Conjola for the first time to hang out and shoot with local rider Sam Thomson. The shoot started with a 4:30am wake up call and the first port of call in Sydney to pick up some riders who were also coming along for the shoot. We were on the road by 6am with Lake Conjola punched into the GPS, hoping to get there early enough to get some morning light for a quick shoot.
Unfortunately, during our 2 hour drive south, (were Mitch Sykes and I discussed plans for world domination and a potential global empire) we also slowly watched a blanket of clouds drift in from the coast, bring rain which firmly set in for the rest of the day.
We spent the day checking out the area and talking about the plans for shooting the following day. We needed a few portraits of Sam so we put the bad weather to good use and over a few beers had an interesting studio shoot to say the least.
We woke up to a patchy sky the next morning and were straight out on the lake to ‘get it done. We managed to get a few chase boat shots and also some tube shots under good lighting, which helped the trip seem a little more productive. It was also the second time using the AquaTech housing for me, so I was still working out the best way to shoot with it. My percentage of usable shots increased dramatically so I guess I’m doing something right!
